JROTC

The West Broward Battalion is led by Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Merkel, First Sergeant Ernest Sosa, and First Sergeant David Torres. The program focuses on developing and strengthening leadership abilities in its cadets. Our mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens.

 

We currently have five teams for cadets to participate in: the drill team, the marksmanship team, the raider team, the academic team, and the leadership team.

 

Drill:  Cadets learn military marching and the correct manual of arms.

 

Raiders:  Cadets are trained in and practice several strenuous activities like rope bridge, litter carry, and sandbags.

 

Marksmanship: Cadets practice and compete precision shooting with airsoft rifles.

 

Academic & Leadership Teams: Cadets who display outstanding leadership/academic abilities are selected by the colonel for these teams. They compete in their respective bowls for a chance to go to D.C. to compete at the national level.
